Make a thick paste using a little bit of water and then buff into the white or cloudy marks. If you have polyurethane in the house you can substitute it for nail polish to fill burns on any wood furniture.
Do not leave the iron on the table too long as it may increase the heat marks.
Fix burn on wood table. First remove the damaged wood. Deep burn holes can be filled. For heavier damage the blackened burnt wood – or char – must actually be removed.
Neutralize the wood by dabbing a solution of 1 teaspoon of baking soda to 12 cup of water then dab with clear water. Mix a generic baking soda and a non-gel variety of toothpaste in a small bowl until it is a sticky paste. When rubbing make sure you do so in the direction of the wood grain after a couple of minutes of rubbing leave the paste over the affected area for 5-10 minutes.
If you want to transfer more heat to the stain remove layers of fabric between the iron and the surface or increase the setting on the iron incrementally. Do not make the paste too watery or you will then end up with a water stain. For deep burns use a curved blade.
Apply 2-part peroxide bleach if the stain doesnt come out. Always test the effect that a solution will have on a finish by. Toothpaste and Baking Soda.
Once the paste has set wipe it off the table using a damp cloth or towel. After you can repaint the whole piece for an even look. A curved blade reminiscent of a grapefruit knife but without the serrated edges can be used to carefully scoop out the char avoiding the unaffected areas of the surface.
Once your table is clean use these tips to help remove those burn marks. Should the burn remain then repeat once again or try the toothpaste and baking soda paste method from above. If that happens use polyurethane instead.
To remove the burn mark combine about 1 tsp 03 g of baking soda and 18 teaspoon 062 mL of water in a small bowl. Apply it with a small brush or put a drop on your finger and transfer it to the hole. Burn marks on your table can be removed without much fuss.
Mix up your Bondo apply to the uneven damaged section then sand smooth. Rub the burn mark with very fine 0000 grade steel wool. With each method it is advised that you first perform a spot test.
Put the paste over the heat mark and give it a few minutes to set. Remember warm cup of coffee temperature. With the flat sharp edge of a craft knife very carefully scrape away the charred wood.
Different types of wood will react differently as well as the different finishes on the wood. Mix together a thick paste of baking soda and water. The slower and gentler the process the safer you will be to the surrounding finish of the stain.
Bondo is an alternative to normal wood fillers preferred by many furniture restorers on Hometalk. Pour a little lemon oil over the burn mark first before rubbing. If you dont have this specialized tool you can substitute a fine-grit sandpaper.
While you can fix many burn marks yourself repairing an antique or other valuable furniture piece is probably best left to experts. Baking soda has been my tried and true remover of white burn marks on my wooden table for years. If the burn mark is only a surface burn gently rub the area and check often to see if you have removed the burned area.
You can also use medical syringes to add drops of polyurethane. If youre dealing with a burn on a dark wood surface the burn itself is most likely white in color.
